Key facts to remember from the UNCF 2023 Annual Report

  • Resources mobilized to finance sustainable development: In 2023, the UNSD Funds, Agencies, Programmes and Entities in Côte d’Ivoire mobilized more than US$175 million (FCFA 106.5 billion) to continue financing nearly 240 development initiatives, in close collaboration with the government and partners. In total, since the signing in 2021 of the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (SDCF) 2021-2025 until 2023, the resources mobilized by the United Nations have reached USD 467.5 million (FCFA 285 billion), or 72% of the USD 650 million (FCFA 395 billion) planned until 2025.
  •  8 key areas of development supported: The report highlights UNDS’s efforts to strengthen sustainable agriculture, industrialization, basic education, access to basic social services, climate change resilience, promotion of gender equality, and governance. Significant contributions have been made in these areas to support a sustainable socio-economic transformation of the country.
  • Focus on youth: The year 2023, declared the “Year of Youth”, was marked by support from the United Nations for a significant strengthening of skills and opportunities for young people. More than 2.4 million young people have benefited from programmes to improve their vocational skills, leadership and access to employment, with a particular focus on rural and peri-urban areas.
  • Joint action to help reduce fragilities in the Northeast: The report highlights the efforts of the UNSD in support of Phase 2 of the Government’s Social Programme (PSGouv2), through its joint programme to strengthen resilience in the North-East region. This programme, involving 10 UN agencies, has implemented multisectoral interventions to improve access to safe drinking water, maternal and child care, food distribution, as well as to promote sustainable agricultural practices in this fragile area of the country. This joint programme also involved actions to respond to the influx of asylum seekers from Burkina Faso and Mali and to promote peace and social cohesion in the North-East region.
  • Strengthened partnerships for the SDGs: The UNDS was active in 2023 in strengthening partnerships for sustainable development in Côte d’Ivoire. Collaborations have been established with the private sector, key national institutions such as the Economic, Social, Cultural and Environmental Council (CESEC) and civil society, to maximize the impact of interventions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Looking ahead: The report also sets out priorities for 2024, including strengthening synergies between UN initiatives, with a particular focus on localized interventions in convergence areas to maximize their impact, particularly on the most vulnerable populations and areas. It also underlines the importance of strengthening the partnership with the private sector and civil society in 2024 for their increased involvement in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), support for the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Côte d’Ivoire scheduled for November 2024 in Geneva as well as the launch of the formulation process of the new United Nations Framework for Sustainable Development Cooperation (UNSDC) 2026-2030.
